The next time you walk down the soap aisle in any shop, you might notice that most of the products on the shelves don’t say “soap” on their labels. They might be called beauty bars, moisturising bars or body bars, but not soap!
That’s because these bars aren’t actually soap and can’t legally claim to be – they’re detergents.
The manufacturers remove the moisturising glycerine that occurs naturally in the soap-making process, and replace it with synthetic lathering agents and harsh chemicals which all help to dry and irritate your skin. The glycerine is a highly profitable substance, often sold to other companies who use it to make lotions and moisturisers, which your skin, now dried out by the harsh detergent “soap”, desperately needs!
Genuine soaps maintain moisture
When you use a genuine handmade soap, you will immediately feel the difference – smoother, softer, soothed skin. Nectar soaps are just that – real soap – retaining their full complement of glycerine and containing no synthetic oils or butters. And no petroleum-based detergents, no hormone-unbalancing phthalates or parabens and no palm oil.
They are handcrafted using the cold-processed method, the most time-consuming way, but also the one way that produces the most benefits.
Cold-process soaps are made using a combination of oils, butters and lye. Soap cannot be made without lye (sodium hydroxide). When the lye interacts with the oils and fats, it creates glycerine and destroys itself in the process. No lye remains in the finished soap.
Cold-processed soaps have shown to greatly help both adults and children suffering with skin irritability right through to chronic eczema.
They can be used on the face and body, and even as shampoo!
Kind to your skin and the environment
Our other nectar products are also handmade with the same philosophy of kindness to your skin and the environment.
While we would LOVE to say our products are TOTALLY organic (and most of them are), some of our smaller but ethical suppliers are just too small to support the expense of certification. Please be assured that, although they may not have the paperwork and symbol of certification, they certainly do produce in an organic manner.
